Dining room at Nomu Japanese Kitchen in Clifton, Bristol

How Nomu began

Nomu was created by Ken Wong and Alex Wills to bring interesting Japanese food to Bristol in a friendly, relaxed setting. The name reflects a simple idea: good food, good drinks, and a place where regulars and first-time visitors feel equally welcome.

From the start, the focus has been on made-to-order sushi, small plates you can share, and mains that suit both quick lunches and longer evenings. Ken and the team are often on the floor themselves, suggesting sake pairings, whisky from the back bar, or a cocktail that matches what you ordered.

The dining room mixes modern Bristol style with Japanese touches: paper blinds, artwork, and shelves of sake and whisky boxes. It is the kind of place where groups celebrate birthdays, couples drop in after work, and locals pick up takeaway on the way home.

What we serve

The Food menu covers sushi rolls, temaki, gyoza, noodles, bento boxes, and cooked sharing plates. Many dishes can be prepared gluten-free or vegan, and a separate gluten-free menu is available on request.

At the bar, the Drinks menu lists Japanese-inspired cocktails, sake, beer, wine, soft drinks, and bubble tea. Early evening Daily Deals and Events bookings are listed on their own pages so you can see what is running before you visit.

Takeaway is available for collection by phone, and Nomu also appears on Deliveroo and Uber Eats for local delivery. Read guest feedback on our Testimonials page.
